In memoriam: Eta Trabing

We are sad to announce the passing of Eta Trabing, a beloved leader, mentor, and trailblazer in the field of translation and interpretation. Eta’s remarkable career spanned more than 40 years, during which she made unparalleled contributions to the profession, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing and learning from her. Eta was a frequent presenter at AATIA’s court interpreting workshops.

Eta served as President of both the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters (CATI) and the Houston Interpreters and Translators Association (HITA), leading these organizations with vision, dedication, and a deep commitment to advancing our field. She also founded the Berkana Center for Translation and Interpretation Studies, further solidifying her role as a cornerstone of professional development within our community.

Beyond her leadership, Eta was an esteemed author of over 23 books that have served as invaluable resources for interpreters and translators worldwide.
