AATIA is delighted to announce that Tamra Daniels-Washington and Ana Ruby Rodriguez Alzate have been awarded our Harvie Jordan scholarships for 2025. Each year, this scholarship is awarded to two outstanding individuals—one representing a signed language and one representing a spoken language—whose dedication, talent, and passion for the language profession truly stand out.
Each recipient will receive a $500 award in recognition of their achievements and as a contribution to help cover the costs of a first professional license or certification. The award scholarship Harvie Jordan, one of AATIA’s founders and a passionate advocate for translators and interpreters.
Tamra Daniels-Washington, our signed-language recipient, is a Mississippi native currently based in Texas, where she is completing her bachelor’s degree in ASL-English interpretation through William Woods University and preparing to earn her certification from the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) and later National Interpreter Certification (NIC). She is also part of the part of the Sign Your Truth ASL Livestream team—an ASL-first livestream that amplifies Deaf stories and perspectives.

Ana Ruby Rodriguez Alzate, our spoken-language recipient, is fluent in English and Spanish and is currently studying translation and interpreting at Austin Community College. She plans to pursue certification as a translator from the American Translators Association and/or licensing as a court interpreter from the Texas Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC). Ana is passionate about connecting people and cultures through the power of language and finds great joy in helping others communicate clearly and effectively.

Congratulations, Tamra and Ana!
