About the event

Do you ever struggle to find a word, even though you know that you know it? Does new vocabulary seem to arrive like the stream from a fire hose, job after job, only to be filed in glossaries that become unwieldy? Let’s examine how to collect, organize and retrieve terms that you need for interpreting jobs.

At the next meeting of AATIA’s Spanish Special Interest Group (SpanSIG), MaurineMcLean will reprise her presentation on “The Care and Feeding of Terminology” (originally presented in July 2026) and add some new tips on how to wrangle your terminology.

Maurine is a Texas-licensed and federally certified court interpreter and a longtime AATIA member. She works as a court and conference interpreter and a translator. She taught in the Austin Community College interpreter training program for 10 years. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s University and received a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. Maurine is also a musician and performs in local clubs as a singer-songwriter and bass player in two bands: The Therapy Sisters and Des Amis Pop. gwriter and bass player in two bands: The Therapy Sisters and Des Amis Pop. In her spare time she gardens and cares for two clever dogs. It gives her great pleasure to share tips on terminology, and to encourage other interpreters as they advance in their interpreting skills.

The meeting will be held on October 22, 2026, at 7 p.m. and will take place online via Zoom. Contact SpanSIG coordinator Claudia Palma Murray for Zoom connection information: spansig@aatia.org.
