Join us for our July 11th general meeting
We will once again hold our bimonthly general meeting online via Zoom, this time from noon to 2 p.m. on July 11th. Our topics will be “Translation Training Activities Beyond Translation Itself ” and “Language Services in Public Schools”.
The presenter for the first topic, Dr. Antonio F. Jiménez, is a Professor of Spanish, Translation and Linguistics at California State University, Channel Islands. His research involves the acquisition and attrition of second languages during and after study abroad programs. Most recently, he has focused on the linguistic and cultural impact of study abroad on Spanish heritage speakers. He is also an ATA-Certified translator (from English to Spanish) and he was the founding administrator of ATA’s Educators Division. He recently published his first textbook, Introducción a la traducción (Inglés < > Español) through Routledge, and he is currently working on its second edition.
Our second presenter, Kendra Dean, has a master’s degree in Spanish translation and interpreting from UT Brownsville and has been working in language services in public schools for five years. She will give us an overview of the services provided by public schools to meet the needs of students with limited English proficiency, the jobs available for language professionals, and the job skills required to work as a school translator or interpreter.
