Ring in the new year with AATIA!

Please join us for our general meeting this coming Saturday, January 9th, 2016. We’ll be ringing in the new year with a great program featuring a panel of three literary translators, who will explain their step-by-step approach to transforming a literary text from one language to another.

Marian Schwartz will dissect one sentence of her translation of Anna KareninaMichael Meigs will discuss his translation process, which he documented during his latest translation from the Swedish. Tony Beckwith will moderate the discussion; he will also talk about working with poetry and show examples of his recent translations of Mexican poetry. The presentations will all be language-neutral and will be fully accessible to all participants, regardless of language pairs.
A representative of the FBI will also be present to talk about the functions, required qualifications and selection process for FBI contract linguists, and Beth Navarro of the University of Texas will be on hand to tell us about a new medical interpreter certificate program at UT’s Center for Professional Education.
The usual networking and tasty refreshments will round out the meeting. Anyone with an interest in translation and/or interpreting is welcome to attend.
