MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, proficiency in Spanish and English, and four (4) years of documented professional translation experience.  Recent experience working as a full-time translator for an agency, a company or as an independent contractor is required.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to speak, write and translate Spanish fluently.  Incumbent must have the ability to participate in conversational Spanish with a high degree of precision of vocabulary and fluency. Incumbent must be able to read and comprehend various styles and forms of Spanish language ranging from moderately difficult prose to highly colloquial writing. Incumbent must have the ability to translate a wide variety of written materials from English into Spanish and Spanish into English.

JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent is responsible for translating a wide variety of written District-wide curriculum and other types of documents in English and Spanish.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide translation of technical terminology used by the department and provide explanations to facilitate communications.
  • Translate a wide variety of written materials from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
  • Provide translation as prioritized by supervisor, legal timelines or team needs.
  • Operate a personal computer and peripheral equipment, using modern software, including word processing and data input; operate a variety of modern office machines and equipment such as a word processor, calculator, FAX and copier, District translation software and perform responsible clerical duties including reports, record keeping and filing.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in a normal office or school setting. This position requires sitting, standing, lifting, and may require travel to campuses. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.
