Announcing the winner of the Harvie Jordan Scholarship
AATIA is excited to announce the inaugural winner of the recently created AATIA Harvie Jordan Scholarship: Cecilia Solís-Bautista!
This annual $500 award supports individuals in the Austin area as they pursue their first certification in translation or interpretation. We are proud to contribute to the professional growth of our community and look forward to continuing this initiative next year.
About the winner:
Cecilia Solís-Bautista is a language professional from the Rio Grande Valley whose passion for helping others began in her childhood, where she often interpreted for her Spanish-speaking family. In 2015, she moved to Austin and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a double major in Spanish and Linguistics and a minor in Portuguese.
While working full-time, she pursued a master’s in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, set to graduate this fall, along with certificates in Literary Translation and Healthcare Interpreting. Her experience at the University of Texas School of Law has strengthened her understanding of the legal field.
With the 2024 AATIA Harvie Jordan Scholarship, Cecilia aims to become a licensed court interpreter, dedicated to ensuring equal access to the justice system for those with language barriers.
