Joe W. Bratcher III, 1957-2022

The Austin literary community has lost a friend and a true treasure. Joe W. Bratcher III, the beloved founder of Malvern Books, has died. His family announced his passing on July 28 from Covid complications.

Malvern Books has been our LitSIG home for many years. Joe and his superb staff welcomed us into their space for our bimonthly meetings and so many other AATIA and LitSIG-related events, including readings, our annual International Translation Day celebrations, and our Women in Translation Month observances.

In line with the family’s suggestion, AATIA will make a donation to adamsmusichouse.org. Bratcher founded Adam’s Music House, a space dedicated to teaching and supporting classical piano music.

We will miss him very much.
