Learn about interpreting in federal courts at June meeting

We’re excited to invite you to join us on Saturday, June 14, 2025, for the latest installment of our AATIA Seminar Series (formerly known as “general meetings”) at a new location—the Asian American Resource Center.

This is a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the world of court interpreting within the U.S. federal courts from our presenter, Lorena Devlyn, a federally certified court interpreter and official staff interpreter for the U.S. District Courts in the Western District of Texas.

Lorena’s presentation, Language Access in the Federal Courts – A FCCI Staff Interpreter’s Perspective, will provide:

• An overview of U.S. District Courts and the Court Interpreters Act of 1978
• Insights into the role of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts and its interpreting program
• An introduction to the federal court interpreter certification process
• A look at common federal case types and the daily life of a staff interpreter

The meeting is free and open to AATIA members and non-members alike. Anyone with an interest in translation and/or interpreting is welcome to attend. Ample free parking is available at the venue.

About our Speaker

Lorena Devlyn is a seasoned interpreter with over a decade of experience. She holds a law degree and a master of arts in translation and interpreting, and serves as Program Coordinator and Adjunct Professor for the Translation and Interpreting Certificate Program at Austin Community College. Lorena is active in numerous professional associations and advisory groups, bringing a wealth of knowledge to the conversation. Fluent in Spanish, English, and French, she bridges cultures with clarity and professionalism.
