Localization, skills needed for getting hired as a Localization Specialist, and a chance to speak to the members of the Board

Please join us at our next general meeting on January 15, 2022, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM via Zoom, and get some answers on how to get hired for localization projects. We’ll have Mariana Barrett joining us, who is a full lifecycle Senior Recruiter handling both high-volume and low-volume localization projects for Fortune 100 companies. Mariana has been working for one of the largest language services providers, hiring linguists for translation and localization projects, multimedia, and linguistic testing for the past 4 and a half years. She is originally from Brazil and has a Bachelor of Laws with experience in Civil Rights Law. After moving to the US, she started building her career as a Brazilian Portuguese/English Translator, doing freelance and contract work before becoming a recruiter.

An Overview

Mariana will talk to us about the general process of linguistic recruitment for localization projects, what skills candidates need to succeed, how to prepare for the job search, and what to expect during interviews.

A chance to speak to members of the board

After Mariana’s presentation, members will have a chance to speak to us members of the Board. We haven’t had much opportunity to listen to our members since the first lockdowns, and we would love to hear what you have to say, as well as suggestions for the program for the rest of the year.

As things stand today, we aren’t planning any in-person meetings, though, of course, that could change. But while we’re having virtual meetings, we can also invite speakers who are (far) outside the Hill Country, even abroad, so we’re asking you, our members, for suggestions for who we could contact as well as any actions the AATIA can take that would benefit you as translators and interpreters.
