General membership meeting on Nov. 14
Join us for our next AATIA general membership meeting on Saturday, November 14th. Our program will feature two special presentations:
Esther Diaz (Vice-Chair Advisory Committee on Qualifications for Translators and Interpreters in Texas, founding member of TAHIT, former ATA Medical Division Administrator, co-Founder, and former President of AATIA) will update us on the Texas Advisory Committee recommendations on qualifications for healthcare translators and interpreters.
Marco Hanson (Spanish and French translator, Master Licensed Court Interpreter, Board Chair of TAJIT, former AATIA Board member, owner of Austin Certified Translation), whose topic will be “Show Me the Money: Finding Interpretation and Translation Work in Today’s Market,” will give us a snapshot of the 2015 Texas job market for language professionals and provide tips on where to find clients and how to get hired with little experience, the difference between working for a company and contracting as a freelancer, how machine translation programs can help or hurt your career, how you can build your skills, and whether you really need Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
The meeting will be held from 1 to 4 pm at Best Western Plus Austin City Hotel, at I-35 and Oltorf. Light refreshments will be served. See you there!
